Holland’s story
How Holland got his name
Many people have asked us about the name Holland, so we thought we would explain it here. The name Holland is a
tribute to my Mommer and Grandad Holland. Mommer and Grandad had 4 children – 3 daughters and a son. The son’s name was Douglas Dwayne and he was killed in a hunting accident
when he was a teenager. My parents named me after him – Christopher Douglas Swenson. My mom and dad put Doug as my middle name so that my grandparents would not have to hear the
name Doug all the time and bring up sorrowful feelings. It was a nice thought…Mommer and Grandad showed up after I was born calling me baby Doug. I have been called Doug ever
since and have never gone by Christopher. In the late 90s, I was talking to Grandad while making the oil rounds and we talked about the Holland name. I asked him about the name
Holland and who would carry it on. We talked about how Doug would have been the flag bearer of the Holland name, but all the kids and grandkids carry it on. Losing Doug really
hurt my Grandad and part of him never recovered. I know he loves all his daughters more than anything, but he really missed having a son like any dad would. I told him at that
point that I would name my first son Holland so that the Holland name would be carried on after his death. We all lost my Grandad last spring and I wish he would have been here
to see me fulfill the promise I made to him almost 10 years ago. Below you will see some pictures of Mommer and Grandad Holland, with me and the rest of the family.
The
middle name Clayton is after my younger brother. Most of you have met Clay and you know we are really close. His first son is named Christopher Teagan after my real first name.
Now we are even Bro!
We are also getting the question, what will everyone call him. Everyone will call him Holland because that is his name. There is no nickname or
shortname. His name is Holland. Holland is a strong, powerful name – just like his namesake.
