10:26 am – Holland and Momma are both doing great. Looks like they will discharge both of them around 12:30 or 1.

Holland had his blood test to make sure he doesn’t have jaundice, etc. The nurse pricked his foot to get blood and Jen cries like someone is hurting him. Then he clotted so

fast they had to prick him again to get more blood. Chicken cried like a little girl who lost a pet. Holland barely even whimpered and Momma cried like she was the baby getting

poked, pricked and prodded.

Momma still has some pain down there and keeps an ice pack on it. Holland has taken to breast feeding like a champ.

Another boob man has been born into the house. Filled out his birth certificate paperwork today. Now they just send us the SSN card so we don’t have to go to the SSA office.

Feel like we just won a prize.

6:26 am – I slept like a champ and set the standard for how this will work. I slept the

entire time between feedings and Jen  got very little sleep. She is all pumped up on adrenaline and exitement still even this am.  Overnight Holland did very well. He fed every

two hours last night and ….  wait for it….took his first poop around 2:30 this morning.  Yesterday after the birth time was called out, I realized something kind of special.

10:29 was the birth time. We lost our precious Lulu on 10-29 last October. Right after we put Lulu down we found out Little Chicken was pregnant. It gave us a great feeling and

helped ease the loss of Lulu. Funny how events in your life are linked. Anyway… more pictures:

9:00 pm – Moved to a post partem room and are going to try and get some sleep. Good night.

and Starbucks (Thanks Tif!). Girls are all enjoying time with Holland. Jen can feel her legs now and pretty soon they will move us to another room in the Post Partem

wing.

12:31 pm – Holland is doing extremely well. He is already nursing for the second time, opens his eyes, sneezes and

is the most handsome little man that ever could have been imagined. The labor itself was only probably a total of 10 pushes. Holland’s head was crowning and the nurses had to

have Jen stop so the doctor could get to the room before she gave birth. Once the Dr got in the room, 2 pushes and Holland was out. I cut the cord and followed him to the new

born wash area (power washer and a blow dryer). Nurse gave him some shots while the doctor finished up with Jen.

10:29 am – Holland Clayton Swenson – 6 lbs 14 oz – 20 in – 4 in penis, grape

size testicals. The chosen one is now born.

10:01 am – Water was just broken by the nurse. She is dilated +1. Head is coming out. Jen’s mom just arrived

and surprised her. She’s crying. Next update will be the baby picture!

src="http://hollandswenson.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/PIC-0058-150x150.jpg" alt="PIC-0058" width="150" height="150" />9:12 am -Water still not broken. Dilation

still at 5cm. Chicken is getting really upset now.  Tif is here. Ryan Martin is here now too. She played a little on the computer and watched some TV, but that didn’t really do

it for her. Hopefully they break her water soon. More updates as soon as we know something.

8:30 am - Chicken is getting upset.

Contractions are slowing down and are less intense. Her water has still not broken. Two other women that got here after us have delivered already. One other is delivering now.

After that baby is born, they are supposed to come break Jen’s water. Hopefully after that, the process will speed up a little bit. Holland is still in a relaxed, no stress

state of mind.

alt="PIC-0054" width="150" height="150" />PIC-00567:25 am -Water is still not broken. Still at 5 cm. We both got a little nap. Jimbo is here now. Looks like

we have 3-4 hours left at least. “Nap didn’t work, Hillbilly is keeping me company now.” She can’t move her legs at all so I had to move them for her. She has the shakes but

she claims she is not cold. She looks like Charlie Murphy on the Chapelle show when they went back in time.

6:28 am - Water is still not broken. Chicken

is happy, drugged and trying to get a nap in before the fireworks.  “This is the way to be in labor. I can actually enjoy the happy times now,” is what she said a minute ago.

She is at 5 cm and the nurse says that Holland should arrive by noon. She is hungry but they won’t let her eat. I made a few jokes about sausage that the nurse didn’t like.

She said her ass is numb. I said good and you all know what I started to say after that. Nurse hates me.

5:15 am – In our delivery room now. We stay here

until after Holland arrives. Drugs have kicked in and Little Chicken is trying to take a nap. She is 4cm dilated now. Holland has a strong heart beat and has experienced no

stress so far. The balloon is out. Contractions are about 3 minutes apart and still strong. They are going to break her water in 20 minutes or so.

4:48

am - Epidural has taken affect. She is happy as a pig in shit right now. Good call on the drugs. Just a waiting game now. Could be 3-4 hours, could be 12. Nurses say

that 5 or 6 is average which puts us at around 10am or 11am.

3:56 am – Jen says “Fuck off” to everything right now. Contractions are kicking her ass and

she is not taking the pain very well. Epidural is ordered and should be here in the next 20 minutes. She also says no more pictures, but that won’t stop me!

src="http://hollandswenson.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/PIC-0052-150x150.jpg" alt="Daddy! No make-up? Really?" width="150" height="150" />

Daddy! No make-up? Really?

3:39 am – Contractions are around 4 minutes apart. Nurse just said that a first pregnancy progresses at about 1.5cm per hour. 10 cm is full dilation,

so we have at least 5 hours left according to the best estimates. The epidural will slow down the rate of dilation, but she really doesn’t care right now. Got her IV with the

medicine to induce labor and took her blood. She has 4 bracelets already.

3:20am- Contractions are getting a little stronger. Still not dilated past 3cm.

Birth plan is officially out the window. Little Chicken is already asking for the epidural. Never saw that coming!

2:50am – At the hospital, in the

triage room again. This hospital is the worst organized ever. We had a 2am appointment and all the rooms are full. So here we are in a shared room and Jen is very

unhappy.

PIC-0050

width="150" height="150" />1:20AM – Up and getting ready to go back to the hospital. Mama is not a happy camper after only a few hours of sleep. Feels like we

are waking up to take a red eye flight. As soon as we get into our room, we should both be able to get a few hours of sleep before the real fun begins.

class="alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-77" title="PIC-0048" src="http://hollandswenson.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/PIC-0048-150x150.jpg" alt="PIC-0048" width="150"

height="150" /> 6/30 9:15pm – Back home now. Ate dinner and about to try to get a little sleep. Little Chicken is whaling in pain from contractions and cramps.

Laying on the couch watching TV. Time is crawling by for both of us.

6/30 8:45pm - False alarm. They sent us home until the 2am induction. Jen is pissed

and upset. She didn’t want to leave. Drive home was miserable. Jen didn’t want to go home. She is in pain and I told her to just be tough. Guess that was the wrong thing to

say.

PIC-0046

width="150" height="150" />6/30 8:00pm -In triage room, hooked up to the monitors now. Catheter/balloon is still in snug. Dilation is less than

3cm. Some of Jen’s contractions turned out to be just really bad cramps.

6/30 7:15pm -Heading to the hospital for contractions. Coming every 2-3

minutes. Summerlin Pkwy exit off 95 was closed.  Lived here 3 years and never seen that exit ramp closed. Only when we are heading to the hospital.

6/30 6:00pm –

I have started getting painful contractions finally!!! We will be going back into the hospital tonight at 2 am to start the official induction. For now we are

“laboring” at home, eating dinner and trying to go to bed for a few hours before we go in. The way I’m feeling right now, I’m thinking I wont get much sleep.
6/30

10:00am- We went in this morning and had an amnio done at the Hospital. An hour later we got the results that his lungs were mature. His score had to be at a 55 and he

was at 56.2 which is really good. After we left the hospital we walked over to the doctor’s office and Dr. Brill put in a balloon catheter and filled it up to force me to 3 cm.

Doug and I went to Olive Garden for the last time as a family of 2 then went home.
